Everyone has a special place they go to when they need to recharge their batteries, and this is my place, a huge glacial dropstone in the woods, half way up a steep slope in the Lanark Highlands. In summer I sit on this rock to ponder and meditate, bathed in sunshine and lulled by the quiet music of the spring at the bottom of the hill. The big old oak trees nearby give wonderful dancing shade, and they are usually full of birds.
I come in all seasons (including black fly season) and at all times of day. I come when I am feeling happy, but also when I am feeling sad for some reason, when my thoughts are in turmoil and I need clarity of purpose and resolution - the rock has witnessed much happiness, but it has also been a comforting companion in difficult times, and time spent with it is always good time.
