Tree, Shadow, Granite

Along the trail below the great rocks, the snow had melted away, and what lay before me a few days ago was a study in grey and brown, no fronds of greenery poking out of the rocks, no wildflowers, fallen fruit or brilliantly colored leaves underfoot, only withered field grasses, bare branches and cold granite.

As stark and cold as this season may be, it has wisdom and gifts of its own to offer. I am drawn by the play of light and shadow in this winter landscape, by the endless flickering dance of light and shadow against old stone.
