The Ash Trees

There were a few minutes of sunshine yesterday, and my beloved ash trees were so breathtakingly beautiful that I took a picture of the sun coming up behind them. When we went house hunting some years ago, the ash trees captured my attention at once. As much as I loved the little blue house on first viewing, I wanted to live here simply because of the great trees in the garden behind the house.

At first glance, this appears to be a single tree, but there are actually two trees rather than one, two magnificent old ash trees curled protectively around each other and growing together in a loving embrace which has lasted for well over a hundred years. The two trees are stately and so tall that one could never fit them into a single photo in their entirety.

In the morning, daylight makes its first appearance behind my ash trees, and they are gloriously backlit by the rising sun. Every single branch has an exquisite curve to it, and birds love to sit there and sing, except for an early morning now and then when a Coopers hawk takes up residence for a few hours. When that happens, the birds conceal themselves in the spruce trees nearby and wait for peace and safety to return to the garden and its old trees. From time to time, there are visitations from a great horned owl at winter twilight, and in summer there are bats.
