Life is full of surprises, and most of the time they are welcome. After years of happy rambling with either the little Nikon tucked in my vest pocket or the weighty old Voigtlander strung around my neck, I was given a Sony digicam last year.
I still love the Voigtlander which is large, clunky and so old it is almost antique, and truth to be told, the new camera stayed in its packaging for several months - I looked suspiciously at the box from time to time, but was not sure I wanted to get involved with digital photography. Why bother? I was comfortable with the old cameras, had a good scanner and enjoyed playing with the images I was scanning and uploading from time to time.
Some time ago, the new digicam emerged from its box, and it has turned out to be fun after all, although what is on the memory card at the end of the day is more an indication of my state of mind on the day in question than my skill with a digital camera (and I take a lot of very bad pictures). It is always interesting to upload the images at the end of the day and see what captured my fancy while I was out rambling, but I have noticed that things often don't turn out as I thought they would. This photo was taken at an old cemetery, and in a deep indigo winter twilight. What I wanted at the time was to capture the chapel, but the lovely old tree in the scene took over entirely and looks like a woodblock print of sorts, so I cropped out everything else and kept the tree, but without tweaking it in any way. I adore both woodblock prints and trees, so this state of affairs was quite all right. The rest of the photo (and chapel) will show up here at a later date. . . .
A little more serendipity this year is a good thing. . . .

I am so tickled that you and your digital camera are roaming. Think of how lovely these images will be when remembered in your SoulCollage cards...Your cards will be reminders of your state of mind and invitations of things to come.

When I take pictures on my walk in city streets or woods in the countryside, I have a sense of trying to capture subtle movements of my emotions at the time. Unfortunately, due to the lack of my skill, my pictures always turn out unsatisfactory. I hope that some day I will be able to do so.
