Snow Day

Snow in city garden,
Covers trees and autumn leaves,
Makes no sound in falling.

It started snowing before dawn on Saturday, and when I pulled the draperies open first thing in the morning (after making coffee of course), the garden was a study in white - everything which had been brought back into view by the mild spell a few days ago was buried again, and buried deeply, including the garden Buddhas who are once again sleeping under their blanket of snow.

Snow continued to fall all day long, and most of our time was spent clearing out the driveway and the cobbled walkway in front, but I couldn't resist taking two pictures, one of the crabapple tree in the front yard, and one of the deck above the garden at the back of the little blue house. When I opened the draperies on Sunday morning, the magic was still there, and the garden was a glorious feast for a winter spirit. On such days, it is difficult to believe that one could ever become weary of winter, and snow is a wonderful teacher. . . .
