Winter Sunset at Dalhousie Lake

The sun went down in flames over the west end of Dalhousie Lake, all wrapped up in shades of gold and deepest indigo, and oh the evening clouds - the clouds were simply astonishing. A Dalhousie Lake sunset is spectacular at any time of year and in any weather, but summer sunsets are something special - they are usually accompanied by a whole vesper chorus of loons singing glorious plangent loon music from one end of the lake to the other.

There are no loons in the depths of winter alas, but Cassie and I stood there on the shore together, watching until the sun dropped behind the trees at the far end of the lake, and the darkness was a vast enfolding purple cloak around us. She loves sunsets and moons as much as I do.
