April's Full Moon of Budding
In the northern hemisphere, this is the moon of Earth awakening, of wild creatures emerging from hibernation and birds returning, of new life, planting and blossoming, of green things springing from the ground beneath our winter weary feet. April is the month in which the Gautama Buddha was born and in which he became enlightened underneath his sheltering bodhi tree at Bodhgaya, India, and in many cultures, the April moon is known simply as the "Buddha's Moon".
We also know this moon by many other names, but almost each and every moon name sings of creation, return and renewal, good words for this greening time of year, this season of change in which we too are awakening. In my mind's eye I can see us, emerging from our many cocoons and taking to the air together in a wild rhapsodic dance which celebrates Life, journeying, the Old Wild Mother and the slowly turning cosmos around us. . . .
