Labyrinth Revealed

Early in the year, I went for a very cold walk over to All Saints Church on Richmond Road, thinking I would like to tread the labyrinth there as a kind of personal New Year's ritual and perhaps cultivate a few warm thoughts, but the labyrinth was concealed under deep winter drifts and not a stone of it could be seen that day. Now it is visible again, and small rags of grimy snow on the north side are all that remains of the long white season.

Early in the day, the nearby mountain ash tree casts attenuated shadows across the stones of the labyrinth, creating its own subtle and rather nebulous patterns in the pale sunlight, and during my visit this morning, the tree was providing a stage for throngs of madly dancing house finches.

The wall in the upper left corner of the first photograph belongs to an establishment once known as Andy's Diner, and which will reopen shortly as a trendy village bistro to be called the "Milagro Grill". Is the new bistro affiliated with All Saints I wonder, or is it simply that the food in the new café will be a miracle and a wondrous experience?
