October's full moon rises high over windswept trees, fallen leaves and newly stubbled fields, places which always seem spooky, deserted and bereft of life in the pale moonlight and the cold air.Now and then geese pass singing across the October moon as they travel to and fro between the cornfields and the river. There is soft rustling in the hedgerows from the deer who are venturing out to graze in the fields and sample the apples in our abandoned orchard. Across the road the coyotes are giving voice to their pleasure and somewhere behind me in the darkness, a small pack of timber wolves is moving into position on the hill and will answer the coyotes with a joyful song of their own.
I am wrapped up in my warmest shawl and holding a mug of tea this evening, watching, listening and loving this old October moon, which is the tenth moon of the turning year. Perhaps I shall add my voice to the wild chorus and sing along.

A beautiful moon here too, in a clear sky. We've just driven back down to the valley from some friends hill top house, and we really didnt need the headlights. So bright she is.
