Like the exquisite wild orchids of our northern woods, established colonies of trout lilies are reputed to be centuries old, and many are older than the trees under which they are growing so profusely. Every trout lily is a wonder to me in springtime — when I discovered this first one blooming after the recent heavy rains, I was almost euphoric. I wanted to kneel down and kiss the good dark earth where it was blooming. Small?? Indeed. Perfect??? Absolutely......

I need to go out looking for wild plants. Seems so early, probably because we had snow last week! Your photos are just lovely, as usual.
