Thursday - for Wesak

Last evening's beautiful full moon signalled the beginning of Wesak, the joyous festival in Mahayana Buddhist tradition which celebrates the birthday of Shakyamuni Buddha. In Tibetan tradition, this festival is called the "Saga Dawa", and in Nepal, it is known as the "Jayanti". In Japan, the celebration takes place in early to mid April and is called the "Hana Matsuri" or Flower Festival.

Happy Wesak (or Saga Dawa or Jayanti). Joy on this day and joy on your journey, a mindful enduring peace for all of us who inhabit this dear little blue planet together.

May all beings be well and happy
May all beings be free from suffering.
May all beings not be separated from their good fortune.
May all beings be liberated in this very life.
May all beings dwell with a heart of love,
For oneself, for each other, and for all beings everywhere.

There is an original haiku sequence here.
