I once knew a lady who gardened thistles, the neighbors hated her because thistles would grow up in their perfectly green lawns sometimes. They would come complain to here and she said that her only reply would that all God's creations have their place and beauty. They never could argue with that. I adore thistles before of that woman.
It does the Scots part of my blood good to see these appreciated and their beauty shared.
And nemo, I must say, I've never understand the fascination with perfect lawns. Clover, buttercups, and thistles are all more beautiful, more healthful, and more interesting than an unbroken carpet of identical blades of grass.
well being scottish and all, of course i adore these! i just saw a new varity of thistle the other day at my friends....tall globular things they were...and decided that next year, i'm definitely growing some!
