Nested Memory

Off in the woods in waist high snow, there was the sound of the north wind shaking icicles off the trees and the liberated ice pendants hitting the deep glossy snow underneath in slow motion, myriad bare branches creaking as they moved against one another and everything in sight swaying rhythmically back and forth.

In the midst of the deepest area of snow was an ash tree in constant motion and this delicate vireo's nest from last summer suspended in it - scraps of birch bark so artfully woven into the nest were blowing back and forth in the wind like Tibetan prayer flags or wind horses.

I became stuck in the snow while taking this photo, and being down for the count with a virus, I should not have been there at all, but I just had to go. Ramble now and pay for it later...

Hi kerrdelune

Carefully chosen words and images make for such a captivating post. I often feel superfluous in adding words to yours. Thank you for this walk in deep quiet snow.
