Blooming

There are so many magnificent early summer flowers, and there is so little time in which to appreciate them all. I don't know the name of this heirloom columbine, but it is gorgeous, and the blossoms are huge. I found the mother plant blooming by the kitchen door of an abandoned farm house in Lanark a few years ago and brought it home.

As comfortable as the plant looked in place, I was appalled at the idea of leaving it there, for the house was scheduled to be knocked flat and replaced with a modern bungalow. Alas, that happened, but not before I had liberated the specimen and carted it off gently. Home it came with me, and it is happy here too.

My macro lens almost seemed to be caressing the blooms this morning, and it lingered lovingly on everything including the delicate filament of spider web floating from the petals. Click on the photo if you wish, for a slightly better (and bigger) image.

I'm so glad that you saved it. It's gorgeous, and such a delicate shade of pink.

I love seeing your photos everyday. And I love to read of your sojourns around The Clyde and Lanark. I live close to the Scottish River Clyde and our Lanark is close by. Funny how names travel, yet bring us together!
