Friday Ramble - Distant Shores

This week's ramble is visual rather than being a word, and simply because I cannot find exactly the right word to describe this intense longing - this wild tumultuous craving so strong that it makes me weep and brings me to my knees whenever it arrives out of nowhere like a bracing autumnal wind.

Somewhere along the upper shores of Lake Superior and not far from the little town of Marathon is a perfect stretch of shoreline where mergansers cruise majestically by and jewel-eyed loons sing in summer.

The great cliffs of the Canadian Shield rise right out of the lake there, and the sunsets are just out of this world - so are the sunrises. The beach (if one can call it a beach) is usually deserted, and on a fine summer one can see forever.

By the shores of this vast northern inland sea, one can merge seamlessly with the great mystery at the heart of all being. One can dissolve thankfully like a raindrop into the ocean, and this morning I find myself longing for it with a longing beyond words. Shall we go and become one with this incandescent creation, one with everything and the great mystery?

Cate
I have been there.
When this world seems to disappear with the spiritual that takes place.
I wish I had your gift with words
and a camera.
