My girl had liver cancer, and there was nothing we could do for her except medicate her and keep her comfortable. Toward the end, she was so thin.On Friday evening, we lifted her onto our bed, and she curled up between us and went to sleep. A little after midnight, she gave a contented sigh and simply stopped breathing.
As I wrote after the passing of a beloved friend only two weeks ago: may the air carry her spirit gently, and water wash her clean of pain and suffering. May the fire of the stars guide her home to the Old Wild Mother, and may the Earth receive her gently. May the Wheel turn again and bring her to rebirth.
She is somewhere in a wild place and running free as she so loved to do in life - she was poetry in motion running through the woods or floating swiftly along through the fields in Lanark with her tail wagging ecstatically and a happy grin on her beautiful expressive face. Her mom (on the other hand) is a complete and total mess.

I'm so sorry. I just lost my dog a little over a week ago, so I know what a hole this can leave in our lives. My consolation is that he's no longer tied to an old, sick and painful body. Many blessings to Cassie on her journey, and to you in your time of loss.
