Daybreak

The spruces behind the little blue house in the village wearing plumes of snow at the break of day - at least they did until the wind went dancing through the branches and scattered fluffy drifts of snowflakes to the four directions and the sleeping garden below.

In November, sunrise here is slow and cold and a very blue undertaking, something best experienced through the kitchen window with coffee in hand and a little sunny Joaquin Rodrigo on the CD player.

For all their cold blueness, there is grace in my old spruce trees - there is grace in the morning, in the early snow, the winter sky and the Great Round in which I spend my allotted days.

It has cooled down in So Cal, but nothing like the photos you show. Brrr. Your photos are always so exquisite.

I can't imagine what your winters are like! We had a relatively cold winter this year - one which sometimes required coat, scarf and umbrella - but nothing like this. It's Spring here now and Mother Earth is changeable in her moods lately - sometimes cool, sometimes warm. If the Sun is left to himself, it can be quite hot. We await the full expression of joyful Summer.
