how regal these birds look, and so perfect for halloween with their natural masks!

the cedar waxwings used to get drunk on berries growing in the courtyard at work. in their intoxicated state they would fall about the tree base covered in ivy until they were able to fly again. i hated to see this, but there was nothing i could do to help them. i don't know what kind of tree it was, but it provided the only shade to that scorching terrace in the center of atlanta.

Oh
I love cedar waxwings..
when I lived in Tn, they used to come and eat our dried up crab apples..
not on their migratory path now..but i do get to see the pileated woodpeckers , so it was a good trade!

We had a small crew of these come through last spring. But they only stayed for the day! I would have loved to see them this fall.

I never knew how the colours of the feathers blended so softly from shade to shade. Thank you for such a lovely portrait.
