a friend of mine in NH said the maple sugar folks are now using lines strung between trees in their work; that buckets hung on trees will soon be a thing of the past. made me sad to hear.
The syrup buckets shown ARE a thing of the past, and syrup lines are now used in large maple syrup operations here. My friends in Lanark keep a few gathering buckets about for demonstration purposes as well as open air syrup kettles bubbling away outside in the open. Those who tap a few trees and make syrup for home use still tend to use the buckets though.

Lovely, I can almost smell the amber sweetness.
My little sugar maple started to weep yesterday!
