By the Fire

The wind howls, the snow blows, and it is very cold beyond the windows. Here we are again, stuck indoors with a cold, a high fever and what looks like the beginnings of another bout of pneumonia. This is to be expected from time to time when one insists on pottering around in the woods on cold days with a load of wild bird food and a camera around her neck.

There is a fire in the fireplace this morning, a bowl of clove studded and very fragrant oranges on the table, mugs of tea in hand and a little Mozart (The Magic Flute) on the sound system, soon to be followed by Sheela-na-gig's madcap Baba Yaga's Ball. I can neither smell or taste the oranges at the moment, but my imagination fills in the gaps.

As I tottered around the house yesterday afternoon, miserable, shivering and draped in every single shawl I own, a dear friend appeared on the threshold with a thoughtful card and a whole bag of lovely books to engage these sniffly hours. I am blessed indeed.

ooh you have inspired me with the oranges. They must smell heavenly and I think I will be stopping by the market on my way home today to buy the ingredients to make some myself.

Please take care of yourself.
I know what not feeling up to all is like - as I begin to feel better.
You reminded me of the oranges with cloves. A long time since I have done this.
Love the smell - but then in the evening like the aroma of my incense - would they mix.
Sending you healing wishes over the miles.

Oh my, dear me, kiss the feet of the friend that brings thee books! :)

Sniffles and fever, begone, this instant!

I adore the clove studded oranges! When I was a little girl we prepared oranges in this way for the holidays! sigh....

This morning there is a thick gray fog hanging about. More cold on the way this week. No snow for us, we are just chilly little bunnies.

Feel betters are sent your way.

I am doing better.

Hope your germs on their way out! Hard being stuck indoors, I know.

Stay cozy and heal. I know you will.

The blessing of being sick is that we are forced to become intensely aware of our bodies. The blessing also comes in the form of friends, books (blessed books), tea, blankets and simply being home. Grace be upon your day, Cate.

Sending you blessings for a speedy recovery. Books, blankets and the sight of those oranges must surely help. Stay warm, as I am right now beside my beloved fire coming to terms with the news that I need to start more aggressive medication.

I'm so sorry that you are feeling so ill, do hope that it soon passes and doesn't develop into pneumonia. At least you have your books to pass the time while curled up under a warm blanket and drinking plenty of liquids - especially elderberry rob if you have it. It's wonderful for colds and flu. Take care.

Hi Cate,
I'm sending healing and soothing ways from downtown Madison. I'm sorry you are so sick. Thanks for sharing the oranges and the music -- both came to my apartment via tele-transport.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that you are 'under the weather' (yes, a bit of a pun intended :8) and hope that you are feeling better today. I can smell those clove-studded oranges from here. And personally, I would be willing to have a bit of illness to share you wanderings in the woods. Feel better soon, dear friend, we have more rambles yet to make!
