Now We Are Six...

 Spencer at the Lake

Our beautiful boy turned six this week in the midst of some of the hottest weather on record in the Lanark Highlands, and (of course) his birthday celebration just had to be at Dalhousie Lake. It's his favorite place in the whole wide world next to home, and it's where he always longs to be in high summer - right up to the curl on his expressive tail in the water and swimming like an otter.

Aqua flies in all directions as he plunges into it, and he appears to go Archimedes' principle one better, displacing a lot more than merely his own weight of the wet stuff. How much of the lake can one happy lad dislodge with a flying leap into the waves?

There were sparkling sun-dappled shallows for him to run up and down and splash around in and sticks to retrieve from deep water over and over again.  There was a shady place under the trees to curl up and nap in after his adventures and a picnic on the beach with his favorite things to eat. Loons called birthday greetings to him as the sun went down, and a thousand-and-one fireflies lighted up the night for his pleasure.  He slept with his sweet nose in my lap on the journey home - fine woofing dreams, snores and sighs of contentment all the way.
