Believe it or not, a squirrel brings an acorn to my deck and leaves it there for me every morning. I saw it happen one morning recently as I stood very still and watched through the glass door. I leave walnuts and peanuts out for the critters every night, and I believe this is a "thank you" from the woodland realm. In the last month no less than 20 acorns have been left at my door. I feel blessed by this daily visitation.
Everything about the scene caught my eye, so simple, so earthy, so wonderfully expressive of the season. An image like this only comes into being when the photographer gets out of her own way!

all the detail, shades of earth, the crown acorn, oyster mushrooms, circle of wood, bitty bits of seeds, or something.
one of the very best I have viewed.
compelling.
